A judge that has already been a problem for Donald Trump has decided to stick around a bit longer.
Judge Juan Merchan, the presiding judge in the Trump Organization case, has refused to recuse himself.
Trump’s attorneys cited donations to Democrats and left-wing organizations as a conflict of interest.
Gonna Stick Around
Merchan’s donations were actually very small, totaling $35, so that should not really be the issue here.
However, when you look at the Trump Organization case, Merchan hit the business with the maximum allowable fine, so there seems to be a little grudge here.
There is also the fact that Merchan’s daughter works for a company that stands to make a fortune if Trump is convicted.
Yet, Merchan says there is no conflict of interest here, and he even pointed to a report issued by the New York State Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics.
So, let me ask you… how many conservatives do you think are on that panel?
The committee stated, “We see nothing in the inquiry to suggest that the outcome of the case could have any effect on the judge’s relative, the relative’s business, or any of their interests.”
Trump has not caught a break in any trial yet, so, we are not exactly surprised that he is not catching one here or that Merchan is refusing to recuse himself.
The deck is stacked against Trump, but we will see if can manage to stay the Teflon Don soon enough.
