Former President Donald Trump has just been informed that he is the target of a criminal indictment from Special Counsel Jack Smith.
This comes as a result of an investigation into his actions before and after the 2020 election, including alleged incitement to violence in connection with the Capitol riots on January 6th.
In response, Trump unleashed an angry statement blasting what he calls “the Department of Injustice” for targeting him. He claims he is being persecuted because of his political popularity, citing recent polls that show he has eclipsed President Biden in approval ratings.

In his lengthy press release statement, President Trump accused the Justice Department under Attorney General Merrick Garland of using law enforcement to carry out political hit jobs against him.
He further claimed that this was part of a larger witch hunt stretching back to 2016 and described it as “a very sad and dark period for our Nation!”
Host Joe Scarborough went even further on MSNBC by labeling this looming indictment “perhaps the most significant” ever against Trump.
The former president is already facing charges in both Manhattan federal court and New York state court related to business records and classified documents respectively, but could be looking at 45 additional counts due to Smith’s investigation into his pre-riot statements.
The current focus appears to be whether or not President Trump encouraged rioters who broke into the Capitol on Jan 6th resulting in multiple deaths and thousands being prosecuted.
Congress conducted their own inquiry over the following year which included scrutinizing tweets made by then-President Trump ultimately leading to him being permanently banned from Twitter due to statements they deemed encouraging violence.
Depending on what evidence they find linking him directly with inciting insurrectionists, Donald Trump may soon have another serious charge added onto his growing list.
