Pro-Palestinian protesters want the USA to be dismantled. “Abolish the USA” was written on the Freedom Bell, a replica of the Liberty Bell in Washington, DC. The original Liberty Bell was used to call people to the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence July 8, 1776. It was part of the bicentennial celebration in 1976, traveling the lower 48 before being placed at Union Station in 1981.
The Bell represents America
Both this one and the original sport the words from Leviticus 25:10, “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” Pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered near where Netanyahu spoke to protest.
The Freedom Bell wasn’t the only thing desecrated. “Hamas is coming” was painted on the Christopher Columbus fountain.
Additionally, the American flag was taken down and burned along with an effigy of Netanyahu. Some Republican lawmakers inspected the damage.
“These are terrorists”
One of the Republicans was former Secretary of the Interior and Montana Rep. Ryan Zinke. Zinke is a former Navy SEAL. “They took down our flag, and we put it back up. God bless America.”
Speaker Mike Johnson and other GOP members replaced the American flag. Johnson tweeted out, “Earlier today, pro-Hamas protesters took down the American flags at Union Station, burned them and raised Palestinian flags. Tonight, we righted their wrong. American flags are once again flying over Union Station. We will not let the terrorist mob win.”
Among the members working with the bell and the flag in the video were military. Former Navy SEALs Reps. Dan Crenshaw and Derrick Van Orden and former Navy submarine officer Rep. Brandon Williams of New York.
Dana Perino pointed out
She made the distinction that you can burn your own American flag, but not one paid with by taxpayer dollars. You can’t go on federal property, remove and burn them.
Tom Cotton of Arkansas presented a bill that would deport foreigners who would do this. “This morning my colleagues and I introduced a bill to deport any foreigner involved in violence and vandalism on federal property. The actions of the pro-Hamas lunatics at Union Station in DC are shameful, and anyone on a visa who took part should have it revoked immediately.”
If you want to protest, by all means do so. It’s your First Amendment right. But don’t deface those symbols that allow you that freedom. This includes the bell, flag and other symbols of America.
