When it rains, it pours, they say.
And right now, the Biden administration is in a monsoon.
Two different IGs have come forward to call out this administration.
One on the Afghanistan investigation and the other on oversight of funding.
Joe Sucks
John Sopko, the special inspector general for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), stated, “I would just say I haven’t seen a starving Taliban fighter on TV.
“They all seem to be fat, dumb and happy.
“I see a lot of starving Afghan children on TV.
“So, I’m wondering where all this funding is going.”
He later added, “The lack of cooperation by State … is unprecedented in the nearly 12 years that I have been the SIGAR, and I must add, in the two decades that I did congressional oversight both in the Senate and in the House.”
Acting State Department Inspector General Diana Shaw piled it on, adding, “The department simply was not fully prepared for the full range of challenges encountered. And the critical question, of course, is why.”
She further stated, “The Afghan Special Immigrant Visa Program for which the Department of State is primarily responsible, still has more than 152,000 SIV applicants in Afghanistan undergoing processing as of last month.”
Shaw continued, “We found that the embassy was not fully prepared to evacuate the number of people it ultimately did.
“This was due in part to the embassy lacking clearly defined eligibility criteria for the evacuation and using unreliable data about the potential number of evacuees.”
Shaw concluded, “As a result, communications with embassy personnel were unclear as to the timing and scope of a potential evacuation, leading to confusion and in some cases, inadequate preparation.”
So, I guess we can expect the Biden administration to come out and say that these people are wrong too.
