Governor Ron DeSantis has scored yet another win, and in the process he has upset a major Biden ally.
New legislation will open up the educational doors for many low-income families in the state.
However, the teachers’ unions are trying to paint it as the complete opposite.
The Legislation
The new legislation will open up school choice for more low-income families.
The threshold for the program is 185 percent of the current federal poverty level.
So, the current level for a family of four is $30,000, so any family of four making less than $55,500 would be eligible.
Ron DeSantis stated, “Florida is number one when it comes to education freedom and education choice, and today’s bill signing represents the largest expansion of education choice in the history of these United States.
He continued, “At the end of the day, we believe that the money should follow the student, and it should be directed based on what the parent thinks is the most appropriate education program for their child.”
The teachers’ union, however, is pitching a narrative claiming the complete opposite.
The union stated, “Average Floridians will be helping pay for millionaires and billionaires to send their kids to elite private schools that hand-select their students.
“Once again, we see Gov. DeSantis putting his political ambitions ahead of Floridians, including students.”
So, unless $55,500 is now considered a millionaire and billionaire, I am not quite sure what they are talking about.
In reality, they know more students will be going to private schools, which means less teachers and money in the public school system, which removes the power the union has right now.
Trust me, this is not about the kids for the union; it is about power and money.
