Tennessee Republicans are moving to expel three Democrats who were among the crowd when the state capitol was stormed last week. Rep. Gloria Johnson of Knoxville, Rep. Justin Jones of Nashville, and Rep. Justin Pearson of Memphis led the crowd in chants with a bullhorn and disrupted session. Around 400 people rushed that capitol with the final vote taking place on Thursday.

Tennessee taking action

Robby Starbuck tweeted out that those Democrats dismissed the Sargeant at Arms who might have been trying to keep order.

“More video of the 3 disrespectful Dem Reps who may face expulsion over their actions this week in TN. Some details missed in the chaos: Their stunt forced Speaker @CSexton25 to go out of session, impeding the work of the legislature and they were dismissive to the Sgt. At Arms.”

House Speaker Cameron Sexton of Crossville pulled the three Democrats from their committees and spoke to the Daily Wire about more accountability coming. Sexton announced,

“Here in Tennessee on Thursday, we’re going hold these three individuals accountable. Their actions deserved to be disciplined, and what they did was a breach of House rules, they need to be held accountable. What they did on the House floor I have not seen happen in Tennessee or heard about.”

Gun rights protest

The protest was noisy. The three Democrats went to where lawmakers speak, pulled out a bullhorn and led fellow protesters in chants.

The disruption was unprecedented. Republican House Leader William Lamberth of Portland was flabbergasted. “It’s never been that three state representatives attempted to incite a riot in the middle of the House floor. It’s dangerous, it’s inappropriate, and it silences the other 96 members.”

The Tennessee lawmakers planned this

The intent was to be arrested and get attention. Rep. Andrew Farmer of Sevierville filed the resolution against Jones. It said he and the other two Democrats “knowingly and intentionally bring disorder and dishonor to the House of Representatives through their individual and collective actions.” Two other Republicans filed similar resolutions on the other two Democrats.

Rep. Gino Bulso of Brentwood filed his against Johnson. Bulso commented,

“The basis for the resolutions is that they actually disrupted proceedings in the House. They were both inside and outside the chamber, agitating all those who showed up. These three made a decision that they were going to go ahead and focus all the attention on themselves. They were agitating and inciting the crowds outside the chamber.”
