With Nancy Pelosi’s retirement looming, the big question is who will take her place.
Initially, some thought it would be Hoyer or Clyburn, but it is unlikely that either of them would get enough support in a crowded field.
Plus, both are so close to retirement, the Party should be looking for an anchor that can be there for some time to help shape the future of the Democrat Party.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) has been making moves behind the scenes, but it turns out he is NOT the frontrunner.
New Blood
After the Schiff report was posted, it turns out that Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) started making his own moves.
He respectfully went to meet with Clyburn to get his blessing.
Clyburn stated, “There’s nothing I would ever do to impede the progress of our up-and-coming young Democrats, and I see him as an up-and-coming young Democrat.
“He knows that, I didn’t have to tell him that — but I did.”
Jeffries now also has the blessing of several minority and female-ranking members of the Democrat Party, which means Schiff is probably on the shelf.
If the Democrats lose the House, and it is all but a certainty that they will, Pelosi is expected to, at the very least, bow out of her leadership role.
Most believe she will retire, especially after what happened to her husband.
That will open the door for Jeffries to take over the role.
While I do not support an inkling of what Jeffries stands for, I do applaud the decision by the caucus as a whole to move away from Schiff and allow the next generation to take over the House.
