The invasion of migrants flooding into Texas at the El Paso crossing may be an emergency but it isn’t the town’s problem. The mayor declined on Monday to make it official. He’s kicking it around but the last time they ended up stuck with the bill.
Emergency not El Paso’s problem
Officials think it’s an emergency. They’re right but it’s a federal problem and up to Joe Biden. He should print some cash to cope with it. Meanwhile, thousands of migrants are “continuing to flood in and overwhelm the city.”
El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser “would not take action despite further urging by city officials.” With around 1,500 invaders a day wetbacking the Rio Grande, they’re simply being turned loose in the city.
Acting Chief Patrol Agent Peter Jaquez confirmed the town has “experienced a major surge in illegal crossings, with a 3-day average of 2,460 daily encounters.” They’re still coming. Mostly Democrat city officials are furious that the Mayor won’t declare an emergency.

They think doing so would “open the Democrat-controlled city up to additional funds and resources from the state and federal governments.” It is supposed to work that way but the city ends up shelling out up front then getting stiffed by FEMA.
Progressive City Manager Mario D’Agostino doesn’t deal with the nuts and bolts but stood up at Monday’s council meeting to demand an emergency be proclaimed.
“With today’s numbers I have to recommend a declaration. 2,500 apprehensions on the daily when they’re doing 498 community releases. Those numbers are high.” It’s nice to see a Democrat noticing that finally.

Owed 8 million already
Mayor Leeser isn’t simply being contrary because he doesn’t like migrants. He’s fully aware how much of an emergency this is. A national security one. “I’m not ready to declare anything today.”
He’s “working with city officials to ensure our community comes first and we take care of our community.” The council can whine all they want but only the Mayor can issue the paperwork.
They declared a state of emergency before. El Paso “has been inundated with thousands of migrants throughout the year, and after spending almost $10 million of the city’s own money – with only $2.2 million so far reimbursed by the federal government – it has had to shut down its busing operation and welcome center.”

Despite the shocking images coming up from Texas over the weekend, this remains the thin end of the wedge. The floodgates will really open December 21. That’s when Title 42 goes away for good.
El Paso Councilwoman Isabel Salcido doesn’t want to wait for the streets to be flooded with sleeping Peruvians. The time to declare an emergency is now. She’s right and everybody is waiting for Joe Biden to do it. He can’t seem to get his nose out of the ice cream dish long enough to notice the news.
“We all know this is unsustainable,” Salcido glared. Even though she’s a Democrat, she can’t wait to start packing buses and sending them to sanctuary somewhere else, like Chicago. They ought to feel right at home there. The windy city is as much of a war zone as El Salvador, these days. Just colder.
