The cities in this country are no longer safe.
This is not exactly a revelation, especially if you live in one of our major cities.
There is a reason, however, that this is happening.
Officers are leaving in droves, and they are not even waiting to become pension eligible.
It’s a Crisis
National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) President Patrick Yoes officially hit the panic button.
He stated, “I want to signal a crisis.”
“We see law enforcement officers leave our profession at a rate we’ve never seen before.
‘Our profession is dependent on the best and brightest stepping up and taking this job.
“And because of the actions, and because of the turmoil that has happened in the last two years, we have a crisis right now in manpower.”
He later added, “Unfortunately, we find ourselves in a very difficult time in American history in the last two years.
“America’s law enforcement has been demonized by many.
“It has created a rift within this country and eroded the very trust of the institution and the profession of law enforcement.
“And we’re paying for it. We’re paying for it in our communities with higher crime. And we’re also paying for it in law enforcement officers.”
Let me give you some numbers…
DC Metro is supposed to have about 4,000 officers on staff, but the city only has less than 3,500.
So far in 2022, more than 2,400 officers in the NYPD have put in their papers, many before they can collect a pension.
In fact, 71 percent are not eligible for their pension.
Last year, more than 1,700 officers left, again, many were not pension eligible.
When you turn good cops into criminals to get headlines, nobody wants to be a cop anymore.
It really is that simple.
