On Monday, Joe Biden issued a serious warning to American business leaders, telling them to immediately strengthen their companies’ cyber defenses. While speaking at the Business Roundtable Quarterly meeting in Washington, D.C. Biden said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is likely to utilize cyber attacks in punitive action against the United States in response to the sanctions imposed on Russia.
Biden said, “The magnitude of Russia’s cyber capacity is fairly consequential, and it’s coming.”
Biden went on to say that “one of the tools most likely to use, in my view — in our view — is cyber attacks. They have a very sophisticated cyber capability.”
Biden told the assembled business leaders that his administration felt the national interest was under threat. He said it is”a patriotic obligation that you invest as much as you can in making sure —and we will help in any way — that you have built up your technological capacity to deal with cyber attacks.”
Throughout the White House briefing Monday, the regime’s representatives addressed the issues with reporters. White House deputy national security adviser for cyber and emerging technology, Anne Neuberger, told press reporters,”To be clear, there is no certainty there will be a cyber incident on critical infrastructure … this is a call to action and a call to responsibility for all of us.”
She claimed protection prep work could consist of scanning websites or looking for susceptibilities, yet she did not define information pertaining to the White House’s concerns. Neuberger stated that authorities had actually found a “prospective shift in intention” on the part of the Kremlin..
A statement from the White House explained,
“If you have not already done so, I urge our private sector partners to harden your cyber defenses immediately by implementing the best practices we have developed together over the last year. You have the power, the capacity, and the responsibility to strengthen the cybersecurity and resilience of the critical services and technologies on which Americans rely. We need everyone to do their part to meet one of the defining threats of our time — your vigilance and urgency today can prevent or mitigate attacks tomorrow.”
The White House distributed a fact sheet for businesses to prepare. They have recommended companies to call for multi-factor authentication, spot-check their systems, prepare response strategies, back up information, secure information, and take various other actions to protect information and enhance measures to secure against cyber threats.
