Post Meeting with Trump,Vernon Jones Likely to Exit GOP Primary

Conversations as to where a person might best fit are being hammered out. Georgia’s GOP candidate Vernon Jones may be getting out of the primary as early as Friday. Trump is likely to back him if he instead runs for Congress so he’s considering what direction to go in. Jones is one of several people challenging Gov. Brian Kemp. Kemp defeated the Democrat but turned on Trump at the 2020 election.

Trump will back those who are faithful

People can turn on you. A movement can benefit you and your constituents, provided you stay with it. Kemp is in the crosshairs.

Trump spoke with former GOP Senator David Purdue for months about challenging the governor. Purdue launched his campaign just after Stacey Abrams launched hers.

Trump will back Jones

Jones will do his best to defeat Brian Kemp. Jones tweeted out, “There’s been a lot of speculation about my political future, as of late. My priority is – and has been since Day One – is to do whatever it takes to defeat Brian Kemp who’s cowardice nearly cost us our country. I will always stand with President Trump in anywhere I serve.”

Jones was encouraged to run for a House seat in Georgia’s 6th or 10th Congressional District. Another strong Trump supporter GOP Rep. Jody Hise, is in the 10th District. She’s challenging the Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. The Democrat Lucy McBath is in the 6th Congressional District.

Trump has the people’s trust

He’s moving chess pieces to his advantage and he’s done that in the past. If Jones left the GOP primary it would help Purdue. A Quinnipiac University poll done January 19-24 noted Kemp led with likely Republican voters at 43%. Purdue was at 36% and Jones at 10%.

Last year he tried to get Rep. Mark Walker to leave the GOP Senate in North Carolina in order to instead be endorsed to run for Congress. Trump endorsed Rep. Ted Budd instead. Walker is staying in the Senate. He endorsed Rep. Harriet Hageman against Rep. Liz Cheney in Wyoming. He was able to encourage some GOP allies to rally around Hageman.
