Rep. Louie Gohmert maybe doing this as a symbolic gesture, but it’s appropriate. He’s doing a number of things with this. He’s attempting to shine light on long buried history. The Democratic double standard is again being shown. Finally, the representative is taking advantage of – or mocking – the current cancel culture. It could be seen either way. In the civil war the Democrats and media have started, he thought this worth mentioning.
Holding the left to the Democratic standard
Reps. Andy Biggs, Jody Hice, Randy Weber, and Andy Harris joined Rep. Gohmert to call for a ban of the Democratic party and encouraged them to change their name due to their involvement in slavery.
The resolution outlined that the Democratic party has much involvement in racism and hatred. Since the left wants to eliminate symbols and reminders of an unpleasant past, the party should change its name due to its affiliation.
Democrats didn’t want the slaves freed
Republican Abraham Lincoln thought slavery was wrong and set out to free them. But it had to be gradual. There was too much hostility to this at the time.
Gohmert told Brietbart, “The time has come for Democrats to acknowledge their party’s loathsome and bigoted past, and consider changing their party name to something that isn’t so blatantly and offensively tied to slavery, Jim Crow, discrimination, and the Ku Klux Klan.”
“As the country watches violent leftists burn our cities, tear down our statues and call upon every school, military base and city street to be renamed, it is important to note that past atrocities these radicals claim to be so violently offensive were largely committed by members in good standing of the Democratic Party.
“Whether it be supporting the most vile forms of racism or actively working against civil rights legislation, Democrats in this country perpetuated these abhorrent forms of discrimination and violence practically since their party’s inception.”
Illustrating absurdity by being absurd
The left has never liked that because it shows a mirror. Gohmert concluded, “To avoid triggering innocent bystanders by the racist past of the Democratic Party, I would suggest they change their name. That is the standard to which they are holding everyone else, so the name change needs to occur.”
The resolution also asks Nancy Pelosi to dispose of any item that “names, symbolizes or mentions any political organization or party that has ever held a public position that supported slavery or the Confederacy” from the House wing.
I agree 100% with Congressman Gohmert-the Democrat Party has to change it’s name due to it’s contribution to slavery, the bloody Civil War, the aftermath of that war which saw them fighting, at every turn, to keep their thumb on the freed black people. But, I would go one step further than Gohmert. The Democrats were the perpetrators of this bleakest part of our history, but the current batch of Democrats knew about this history and joined that party anyway. This means that current Democrats did not care that they were joining a group with a sordid past-so, the right thing for them to do is to not only change the name of the party, but to also not be allowed to be a part of the new party because they were complicit in the evil associated with the Democrat Party.
An idea who’s time has come an is long overdue . The only flaw is that they would just reform under a new name . Like Amalgamated Moron AssHats of America . They should just be honest and call themselves the American Communist Party which began the days of FDR . It’s got better with JFK but began its decline with Johnson .
Democrats having been using minorities to further their political agenda forever. At the same time, they claim to be a party of the people, the little guy, the working class. The reality is, they don’t care about anybody but themselves. It’s the party of selfish ambition and envy.
