Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is reportedly one step closer to having that cherished gavel in his hand.
Reports broke on Thursday night that a deal had been struck.
However, the deal is not for the 218 votes that McCarthy will need, which is a bit baffling.
Getting Close
This new deal will reportedly bring in about half the group that has been resisting McCarthy.
Some key issues have been settled, but not all.
Representatives from both sides negotiated the deal, which is reportedly being reviewed by the Whip prior to the next vote.
If reporting is accurate, McCarthy will have somewhere between 210 and 212 votes when the next ballot is taken.
Why he would not close a deal to get everyone on board is beyond me, but who knows what he is thinking.
Being this close will add pressure to the holdouts, but I really do not see them caving at this point.
I am also curious for the full detail of the deal to be published to see exactly what McCarthy was willing to concede at this point.
Hopefully, these are key issues regarding the overall operation of the House that I have seen overwhelming support for on social media.
