Donald Trump has finally gotten a break from the courts.
Of all people to give it to him, it was Chief Justice Roberts.
Roberts granted a temporary stay on the order for Trump to turn over his tax returns.
At the very least, it keeps this out of the headlines until after election day.
It’s a Win
The House Ways and Means Committee now has until November 10 to respond, which clearly keeps this out of the system until after the election.
Roberts’ order stated, “Upon consideration of the application of counsel for the applicants, it is so ordered that the mandate of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, case No. 21-5289, is at this moment stayed pending further order of the undersigned or of the court.”
Committee Chair Richard Neal (D-MA) maintains they need Trump’s tax returns to craft oversight legislation.
He stated, “We’ve waited long enough—we must begin our oversight of the IRS’s mandatory presidential audit program as soon as possible.”
Let’s be realistic, though.
We all know a few days after Dems get these documents, they will be leaked by someone.
The one thing that could hurt Trump on this narrative now is the corruption case in New York.
It looks like the Trump organization was doing off-the-book perks for its managers to give them a tax break.
That could be just the “in” that Democrats need.
