Vice President JD Vance is continuing his efforts to force Europe to take care of themselves and their issues, declaring that they must stop being America’s “permanent security vassal.”
These people want to turn Europe into a permanent protectorate. The problem: if it was ever a good idea, it is simply not sustainable with $2 trillion in annual deficits. https://t.co/7FzdOppBD8

Vance made the remarks during an interview on April 15 with the British website UnHerd, where he called out Europe’s dependence on the United States and slammed European leaders for ignoring the will of their voters when it comes to the issue of immigration.
“De Gaulle loved the US, but he recognized what I certainly recognize, that it’s not in Europe’s interest, and it’s not in America’s interest, for Europe to be a permanent security vassal of the United States”.@JDVance to me.

“Europe’s entire security infrastructure, for my entire life, has been subsidized by the United States of America,” the vice president pointed out.
Vance went on to note that, with the possible exception of Britain, France, and Poland, “most European nations don’t have militaries that can provide for their reasonable defense” — highlighting the fact that European leaders have “radically underinvested in security, and that has to change.”
“It’s not good for Europe to be the permanent security vassal of the United States,” he warned.
Vance is completely correct about Europe’s heavy reliance on U.S. military power, as in 2022, only 7 of the 30 members of NATO had met the minimum requirement that they spend 2% of their GDP on defense. However, after Russia invaded Ukraine, that number rose to 23 of 30. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has been pushing for NATO countries to spend 5% of their GDP on defense.
In his interview, the vice president also expressed his frustration with European leaders who continue to force Muslim migrants on their citizens despite them voting against mass migration. These Muslim migrants have practically taken over numerous European countries, committing crimes without any real punishment and being protected by the governments, who punish citizens for speaking out about the issue.
“We’re very frustrated — ‘we’ meaning me, the President, certainly the entire Trump administration — that European populations keep on crying out for more sensible economic and migration policies, and the leaders of Europe keep on going through these elections, and keep on offering the European peoples the opposite of what they seem to have voted for,” Vance explained.
At the same time, Vance also noted that, even though he is critical of European foreign and domestic policies, he has a lot of admiration for the people and culture of Europe.
“I love European people. I’ve said repeatedly that you can’t separate American culture from European culture,” he said. “We’re very much a product of philosophies, theologies, and of course the migration patterns that came out of Europe that launched the United States of America.”
Vance later concluded the interview with a strong message to the world about the Trump administration’s philosophy on foreign policy, stating: “We’re not on anybody’s side; we’re on America’s side.”
His comments come after a lengthy history of calling out Europe for their authoritarian actions and their overreliance on the U.S., including slamming European leaders during the Munich Security Conference in February for terrorizing their citizens by arresting them for speech, thoughts, and silent prayers:
JD Vance at the Munich security Conference just let ALL of Europe know they are officially on notice for terrorizing the free thoughts, speech, and even silent prayers of their citizens. America’s clear moral leadership on the world stage is back 🔥🔥 pic.twitter.com/ctKIhroQRr
