Ever since the riot at the Capitol, Donald Trump has maintained that he had authorized extra security.
Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has blamed this on Trump and many of his former cabinet members have blamed Trump.
It turns out, the extra security was not in place because they were worried about optics.
Not Doing It
The Inspector General’s office investigation has found that Donald Trump was the one telling the truth.
Trump could not actually order the troops, but he did authorize their use for the rally.
It was the decision-makers at the time who decided not to use the troops for optics or political reasons, whatever you want to use as the excuse.
This is more than likely military leaders not wanting to see troops behind Trump while he talked about a stolen election, making it look like a coup instead of security.
Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley confirmed on two separate occasions that Trump had authorized the use of troops.
Milley, during one interview, stated, “The President just says, ‘Hey look at this. It’s going to be a large amount of protesters come in here on the 6th, and make sure that you have sufficient National Guard or Soldiers to make sure it’s a safe event.’”
Then-Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller, a Trump appointee, responded, “Hey, we’ve got a plan, and we’ve got it covered.”
During a second interview, Milley stated, “Hey, I don’t care if you use Guard, or soldiers, active-duty soldiers, do whatever you have to do. Just make sure it’s safe.”
Miller was playing semantics here, but he also admitted that troops were not used because of optics.
He testified, “There was absolutely — there is absolutely no way I was putting U.S. military forces at the Capitol, period.
“I hate to use the word optics because it’s been used and so prejudicially and negatively. It wasn’t the optics.
“It was like there was would have been huge political consequences that, because that’s what I got paid to do. Is I had the factor in the politics of this and that was my concern is the situation does not warrant at this time U.S. military forces.”
DC Metro Police had also requested troops, but their request was shot down.
My premise has always been that Pelosi and company actually wanted something to happen, so they did not want that deterrent there.
This gave them the ammo they wanted and needed to try to remove Trump from their world forever, and it almost worked.
The problem, however, is that the media will give this little to no coverage, and January 6 will always be the biggest weapon that Democrats have to use against Trump.
