Inbal Lieberman has been the security coordinator of Kibbutz Nir Am since December 2022. She’s being hailed as a hero for leading a group of residents to safety. The group killed more than two dozen terrorists while she killed five herself. She heard explosions early Saturday morning that were different from the normal rocket attacks on the kibbutz. The armed “good guy” levels the playing field and evens the odds.
The hero took charge
She went to the armory, passed out weapons to her 12 member security team and put a strategy together. The New York Post reported, “She placed her squad of kibbutzniks in strategic positions across the settlement and set up ambushes that caught the gunmen off guard and turned the tables on them during their mission to inflict mass casualties.” Nir Am was an impenetrable fortress in comparison to others that had heavy losses.
The cultural coordinator at Nir Am, Ilit Paz, said Lieberman’s leadership was “amazing” and that her husband
“was part of the standby unit that worked to prevent more casualties. They heard the shots and made contact on their own with other members of the standby unit and with Inbal — and they understood that they were told to be on standby. But Inbal made a decision not to wait and jumped operationally. In fact, the fact that they did it early prevented dozens of casualties.”
The hero did what needed to be done
Israel News said via social media that Lieberman “will receive the Israel Prize…[w]hen it’s all over. The story of her heroism is a story that will enter the Israeli myth for generations. Inbal is the reason that there is one kibbutz in the entire surrounding area that remains unscathed. Kibbutz Nir Am.” The Israel prize is the highest cultural honor offered.
Hamas attacked Israel early Saturday morning resulting so far in over 1,000 killed and over 3,400 injured. The attack happened on the Jewish holiday of Shemini Atzeret during the last festival of the High Holy Days.
Israel needs a hero
Over 100 innocent people, women, children and the elderly, were kidnapped to Gaza. Many were abused on the way. This attack has been called the “worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.”
Israeli Airforce responded by striking at least 1,000 terror targets in Gaza. Israel also mobilized 300,000 reservists within 48 hours of the attack. At least 20 Americans are unaccounted for with 14 Americans having been killed according to the National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
