Things got really exciting for visitors to the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in San Francisco on Monday. After fighting off zombies shuffling along the sidewalk to gain entry to the building, they weren’t even safe in the lobby. An upset individual opened his own drive-thru lane by crashing his car through the wall. When police eventually arrived, they shot him dead. It’s going to take a while to figure out exactly what happened and why.
China Consulate a target
Around 3:09 p.m. a car came blasting through the cinder block wall of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China. The unidentified driver didn’t have an ordinary traffic accident or medical emergency behind the wheel.
He meant to make a bold entrance. He came leaping from the car with two knives and there was reportedly a crossbow in the vehicle.
“Where is CCP?” He demanded to know, referring to the Chinese Communist Party. He must have meant members of the China diplomatic staff.

A blue Honda breached the entrance of the diplomatic office and collided with the wall. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver exclaimed, "Where is the Communist Party?!"

With blood coming from his head, he didn’t seem like he had an appointment. Security guards grabbed whatever they could find to hand as a weapon and the battle began.
According to Sergeant Kathryn Winters with the San Francisco Police Department, the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China handles visas.
Police, she insists, “responded within minutes of the wreck and confronted the driver in the lobby, shooting the person.” They took him to the hospital where they confirmed he was dead.
Nobody else injured
Sergeant Winters notes that it’s “unclear how many people were inside the consulate when the incident happened but no one else appeared to be injured.” China has had some controversial issues recently.
At Monday night’s press conference she “declined to say why police opened fire or whether the person killed was armed.” Witnesses mention two knives and a crossbow.
Winters wouldn’t commit to whether the “crash was intentional or give any other information on the person or the incident.” If police hadn’t killed the suspect, he would probably been released by the judge within hours.

A spokesperson for the Consulate General of China also issued a statement. They aren’t happy. Neither is their insurance company.
China is complaining loudly that the crash caused “serious damage” to the building and put people in “serious threat” of being injured or killed.
The police might not be making a big deal out of it but the consulate “strongly condemns” the incident and called for an investigation to be “carried out expeditiously and dealt with seriously in accordance with the law.“
