Many Australians have been left freaked out by what many are describing as a “strange” and “scary” photo that has since gone viral online. The photo was taken at a Sydney beach, and without any context to the image, many people are drawing wild conclusions…however, there’s one simple explanation to what’s happening in the picture itself.
When a strange photo taken at a Sydney beach surfaced on the internet, many Australians were left confused and freaked out. The image showed many people dressed in dark clothing dotted across Balmoral Beach all looking out towards the ocean in what appeared to be a trance.
After asking questions, it was revealed that these individuals were actually participating in an exercise for mental health – meditation.

Meditation is an ancient practice used for physical and emotional wellbeing which has been around for thousands of years. It can be defined as “the practice of focusing one’s attention on the present moment and accepting and acknowledging one’s feelings, thoughts, and physiological sensations” according to Dr Zac, news.com.au’s medical expert.
During meditation sessions, practitioners use techniques developed by Dr Joe Dispenza to help them relax their bodies into a state of relaxation – which helps reduce stress-related inflammation, decrease levels of stress and anxiety as well as promote workplace productivity.
Regular mediation can have numerous benefits for your health both mentally and physically including improved sleep quality, reduced blood pressure levels as well as increased happiness levels due to its ability to reduce cortisol production (a hormone released during times of stress).
Additionally, research suggests that mindfulness meditation can help with dealing with depression or substance abuse issues due its ability to focus attention on current emotions rather than worrying about past or future events.
It may have looked strange but the image from Balmoral beach proved just how popular meditation has become in recent years due its potential health benefits like reducing cortisol production or helping deal with depression or substance abuse issues.
Clearly more research needs to be done regarding this topic but there are some promising findings so far that suggest this form of exercise may indeed offer some advantages when it comes to improving overall wellbeing – both mentally and physically.
