Jeff Gunter, a Republican donor appointed by former President Donald Trump to be the U.S. Ambassador to Iceland, is running for Nevada’s U.S. Senate seat.
As the state of Nevada prepares for an important race that could potentially decide which party controls the U.S. Senate, Jeff Gunter has added his name to a crowded list of Republican candidates vying for the nomination and votes from constituents across the state.
He joins Sam Brown, an army veteran who is supported by the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), and Jim Marchant, a former Nevada State Assemblyman and election denier as part of this race against Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV).
In his campaign video announcement, Gunter emphasizes “integrity” and “character” while also making policy promises to tackle inflation, lower energy prices, overhaul healthcare systems, secure veterans affairs programs, finish building a wall along America’s southern border with Mexico and reduce bureaucracy within government agencies if elected into office.
Gunter also makes it clear he will continue to stand by former President Donald Trump, noting that he will fight for Trump’s ‘America First’ agenda if given the chance as US Senator from Nevada.
While there are numerous candidates competing in this primary election season for Republicans in Nevada’s U.S Senate race, it appears that many voters have taken particular notice of Jeff Gunter’s candidacy due both to his role as an ambassador under President Trump as well as some controversy surrounding his tenure during that time period too.
CBS News reported that whilst serving at Ambassador to Iceland, allegations were made claiming that Jeff had created an “untenable” work environment within the embassy which drew criticism but was never proven or confirmed by any investigation or legal evidence provided at this time either.
