God is powerfully present when not only does somebody ask for mercy from Him but offers themselves to the law. It can happen anywhere. In one case it happened in a small town in Illinois on a Friday night service June 2000. A man that was tired of running wanted to make things right by our Creator and man. He spoke to the pastor and while the hymn was being sung and waited for law enforcement.

God is still in the miracle business

A gentleman walked into a church and told the pastor, “I’m wanted by the law, and I need to turn myself in.” The police dispatcher was bewildered, “Are you in danger? Is this a hostage situation?”

Nope. “No, it is nothing like that, and no one is in danger. This man has accepted Christ, and he is happy now to surrender to the law.” It’s a breath of fresh air when people are honest with God, themselves and those around them.

People deny God

And the consequences are tragic. Human lives and even nations are destroyed over bad decisions. The United States is suffering the consequences of decades of these bad decisions. At all levels, we’re behaving as though God will never hold us accountable.

Our leaders are off in left field. The fix to our problems we supposedly need transgender ideology, keeping our southern border open and to be at war with gas stoves and incandescent light bulbs. The self appointed messiahs that recoil at the mention of God ignore the law, jeopardizing the land they rule over.

God is the final judge

This ideology has failed spectacularly over decades. Reality is ignored. We’re seeing what happens when you ignore reality and it’s only going to get worse unless we reverse course.

Turning back to honesty, to our Creator, admitting our mistakes and vowing to make it right are necessary. People and the world are amazingly forgiving when this happens. God’s grace is restorative. The hymn “Amazing Grace” was written in 1772 by John Newton. It still applies today. If we don’t do it, there will be a day we’re beyond salvaging.
