One of the biggest names in 1970s rock has left us.
Randy Meisner, a founding member of the Eagles, has passed away.
He was 77 years old.
Gone But Not Forgotten
One of my favorite Eagles songs also happens to be the song that Meisner sang lead on when he was with the band.
“Take It to the Limit” was also very much the reason that Meisner left the band in 1977.
Meisner was feeling ill during a concert, and did not want to take the lead on the song for fear he could not hit the high notes.
He and Frey, among others, got into it backstage and the relationship between the band members was never the same.
Meisner explained, “That was the end. . . I really felt like I was a member of the group, not a part of it.”
He was also just getting tired of the life.
Several years later, he stated, “But I was just tired of the touring. It’s a crazy life that you live at twice the normal speed.
“When it got to the point of sanity or money … I thought I’d rather have sanity.”
The posting regarding his death stated that he died due to complications from a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
And wow, I just realized something… Meisner was 77 years old, and he ended his relationship with the band in 1977.
How about that for coincidence.
