The first of two bills intended to prevent a nationwide gas stove ban cleared through the House Tuesday, on a vote of 248 to 180. Conservatives consider this a prime messaging opportunity to jump in front of a concerning issue. Those who actually know how to cook say that the only way to do it right is with natural gas. They aren’t about to let green liberal policies invade their kitchens.
Gas stove protection
The Republican controlled House took up a pair of bills meant to keep Democrats from banning every gas stove in America. They claim they don’t have plans to do that but those plans are already in motion. Republicans see this as “an issue that has become part of the political culture wars.”
While Joe Biden has insisted that he has no intention to ban gas stoves, a “statement of administration policy expresses opposition to the House bills.”
Liberals who believe the New World Order talking points say you won’t need your stove anyway because you’ll be eating bugs. The chances of either bill making it through the Democrat controlled Senate are dicey. Just getting one of the bills to the floor for a House vote was tricky. The one which passed on Tuesday had been “pushed back a week after conservative hardliners blocked floor action last week.”
Tonight my Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act passed the House with a bipartisan vote.
Americans should decide if gas stoves are right for their families, not the Federal Government. I’m glad to see this commonsense bill to rein in the admin pass. pic.twitter.com/xtUBMnqK2v

They’re rightfully throwing a snit after Kevin McCarthy caved in to pressure from the administration at the last minute to make himself look good. They wrangled for months to get to the point where they had real leverage and McCarthy handed it over without gaining a single concession.
The Ultra-MAGA Republicans love cooking with gas so much they set aside their gripes against McCarthy. At least long enough to pass the gas stove protection bill. They’re still pounding McCarthy behind the scenes to beat him into submission ahead of “future spending decisions.” If successful in the Senate, the bill will “bar the Consumer Product Safety Commission from using federal funds to regulate gas stoves as a ‘banned hazardous product.‘”
They also won’t be able to “issue or enforce a product safety standard that prohibits the use or sale of gas stoves or substantially increases their price.” Democrats are going spastic, even as they insist they aren’t trying to do it. If that was true, they would laugh and say “silly Republicans,” then go about some real work. Their concern proves the ban is needed.

Keep Americans safe
Consumer Product Safety Commission Chair Alex Hoehn-Saric babbled incoherently at CNN after Tuesday’s win for gas stove lovers. “This bill is unnecessary – the CPSC is not banning gas stoves,” he began. Then explained why they need to ban gas stoves.
“However, CPSC’s ability to set standards addressing gas stove safety hazards related to tip-overs, gas leaks, and fire hazards could be hampered by the legislation, which would undermine CPSC’s mission to keep Americans safe.” It’s a good thing they’re going after it from two sides at the same time.
The second House bill is focused like a laser on the Department of Energy. The summary explains the DOE “may not prescribe or amend energy conservation standards for kitchen ranges or ovens if they would result in the unavailability of a product on account of the type of fuel the range or oven uses.”

That would include your wood stove, barbecue or smoker. “The bill also seeks to block DOE from finalizing or implementing a proposed rule that deals with energy conservation standards for consumer cooking products.”
The DOE took the same approach as CPSC, denial then insistence on why it’s needed. “The Department of Energy is not proposing to ban gas cooking products.” Instead, they’re bound by “Congress and a court consent decree” which “require the Department to conduct an energy efficiency rulemaking on gas and electric cooktops by January 2024.”
Your gas stove simply isn’t efficient enough, they declare. These “proposals are intended for nothing more than increasing energy efficiency and promoting innovation, without sacrificing the reliability and performance that Americans have come to expect.” In their opinion of the performance, not yours.
