This week, Russian-Ulkrainian tensions have ratcheted up again after a Ukrainian drone hit an ammunition depot in central Crimea.

In response, Moscow has exited a landmark grain export deal and launched drones and missiles at Ukrainian seaports.

Recent events highlight the intensity of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine – a war with devastating consequences on both sides.

On Saturday, Sergey Aksyonov (the Kremlin-appointed head of the illegally-annexed territory) confirmed an explosion had occurred near Krasnohvardiiske after a Ukrainian drone strike hit an ammunition depot.

There were no reported casualties but civilians within five kilometers of the blast site were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Social media reports indicated that there could have been more than one drone targeting oil depots and airstrips in addition to hearing loud blasts resembling exploding shells.

This follows Monday’s attack by Kiev on the crucial Kerch bridge linking Crimea with Russia which left two people dead, prompting Moscow to end their participation in a wartime deal allowing Ukrainian grain to be exported through Black Sea ports while launching retaliatory attacks against Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure using drones and missiles.

On Wednesday, more than two thousand people were evacuated from military training grounds in eastern Crimea after a fire broke out nearby.

Later that day traffic across the Kerch Bridge was temporarily halted without explanation before later being allowed to resume crossing over it. This is not the first time that such an incident has occurred as back in October last year  two sections of the bridge were destroyed by a truck bomb necessitating months worth of repairs to be carried out at considerable cost to both sides involved in this conflict.

Meanwhile Saturday saw further Russian attacks against 11 regions across Ukraine which killed eight civilians according to officials.

Finally three civilians near Chernihiv were wounded as Russian cruise missiles destroyed local cultural centers along with apartment blocks while another three individuals sustained injuries due to shelling close by Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant which some suspect may be used as a base from where Russian forces can launch strikes into occupied territories nearby.

The night passed quietly though thankfully inside capital city Kyiv without any air raid alerts having gone off according to AP reporters stationed there.

Saturday morning saw Ukrainian soldiers successfully bring down 14 enemy drones including five Iranian-made Shahed ones above southeast regions currently experiencing fighting between opposing forces meaning their success rate at neutralizing them continues increasing steadily.
