A bill is going through the California legislature that would label parents as abusive if they denied their child’s gender identity affirmation. Republican Scott Wilk let people know when the Senate Judiciary Committee voted overwhelmingly 8 – 1 to advance Assembly Bill 957. It rewrites a lot of family law and classifies “a parent’s affirmation of the child’s gender identity as part of the health, safety, and welfare of the child.”
Parents may lose their kids
Parental rights are being stripped away, the state will take them. Wilk is fearful, “In the past, when we’ve had these discussions, and I’ve seen parental rights atrophy, I’ve encouraged people to keep fighting. I’ve changed my mind on that — if you love your children, you need to flee California. You need to flee.”
California is out of control. The bill changes a section that deals with child custody disputes. It says the court now needs to consider the “best interest” of the child for the transgender identity. If the parents deny this, it’s equal to child abuse because it would violate the child’s health, safety, and welfare.
Parents are likely to deny this
The bill changes the definition of what is considered the “health, safety, and welfare” of a child and all organizations will be required to affirm gender identity. This includes schools, churches and hospitals.
The text of the bill is ambiguous. Too much can be read into it. There’s no distinctions regarding the child’s age or how long the child has identified as transgender.
Parents rights groups oppose this
Wilk loves the state. He was born and raised here. But once his term is up, he’s leaving.
“I love this state. I’m not going to stay in this state because it’s just too oppressive. I believe in freedom, and so I’m going to move to America when I leave the legislature.”
