One of the more popular drivers on the NASCAR circuit has been swept up in tragedy this week.
The death of several of Jimmy Johnson’s in-laws is being investigated as a possible murder-suicide in Oklahoma.
Among the dead… the 11-year-old nephew of Johnson’s wife.
Tragedy Strikes
The Muskogee Police Department stated that authorities were called to the resident on Monday night after receiving a 9-1-1 call around 9:05 p.m.
The call was reportedly placed by a female, reporting a disturbance and someone with a gun inside the home.
Authorities stated that she hung up without giving her information.
When they arrived, they found a dead body “laying in the hallway inside the front door” as well as gunshots in another room of the home.
The departed have been identified as 69-year-old Jack Janway, his wife, Terry Janway, 68, and their 11-year-old grandson.
They are the parents and nephew of Johnson’s wife, Chandra Janway.
Police are investigating the incident as a possible murder-suicide, with Terry Janway the person of interest.
Johnson’s racing team stated, “The Johnson family has asked for privacy at this time and no further statements will be made.”
Johnson and Janway have been married since 2004.
