Joe Biden’s climate envoy just took a gut-shot punch from China.
John Kerry has openly advocated looking the other way on China’s human rights violations for the sake of climate change.
China has humored him on this front, but a recent report reveals that China is really paying him no mind when it comes to dialing back the use of fossil fuels.
Increasing, Not Decreasing
A recent report by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) and Global Energy Monitor proves that China is not doing its part.
The reality of climate change is that unless China and India both get on board, nothing else matters.
I say this because between those two countries, about half the emissions are accounted for.
For instance, China is responsible for about 27 percent of the coal usage in the entire world.
And guess what, that usage went up even more in 2022 according to that report.
China increased its coal usage by 106 gigawatts of power, which is equal to about 100 large coal power plants being operated.
Global Energy Monitor analyst Flora Champenois stated, “China continues to be the glaring exception to the ongoing global decline in coal plant development.
“The speed at which projects progressed through permitting to construction in 2022 was extraordinary, with many projects sprouting up, gaining permits, obtaining financing and breaking ground apparently in a matter of months.
“This kind of a process leaves little room for proper planning or consideration of alternatives.”
Until China and India dial back their use, everything else in meaningless.
