27-year-old Jemma Beale from London has been called a “very convincing liar” after falsely claiming that six men sexually assaulted her in addition to another nine men gang-raping her in four separate encounters over the span of three years.
In 2017, Beale had been found guilty of perverting the course of justice as well as perjury.
Shockingly enough, in an attempt to make her claim more convincing, she even caused injuries to herself in 2012.
Beale’s attorney filed an appeal, asserting that the judge had tainted the case by instructing the jury to consider Beale in a particular fashion, relating her case to what other victims of sexual assault faced.
The attorney claims that this prejudiced the jury regarding the “danger of assumptions, myths, and stereotypes.”
However, despite Beale’s best attempts, Lady Justice Hallett had no sympathy as the supposed ‘victim’ was actually the defendant.
“The total of 10 years, although stern, we are satisfied cannot be described as excessive,” Lady Justice Hallett said.
Detectives grew suspicious after one of Beale’s former partners claimed that a man had been wrongfully imprisoned for raping her back in 2010.
With over $250,000 and 6,4000 hours poured into the investigation of Beale’s allegations, police began to notice recurrent contradictions and similar circumstances that led them to believe she may have made up the claims.
As a result of Beale’s lies, multiple men were found guilty and received hefty prison terms, losing significant portions of their lives that they cannot get back.
Now, the proverb “Think before you speak as you can’t take back what you say” comes to mind as an important life lesson for Beale.
