If you were growing up in the 80s or 90s, professional wrestling probably played a big part of that.
I can still remember sitting in front of the TV on Saturday and Sunday mornings watching the greats of the time, long before we knew it was fake.
One of those figures, Barry Windham, is now fighting for his life.
Windham started wrestling in 1979, paid his dues for a few years, then joined the ranks of the legends.
I can still remember some of the epic battles he had with The Nature Boy.
It was as a tag-team specialist that he would really make his mark, however.
He started to break down, as they all did back then, fading from glory and barely wrestling after 2005.
The WWE released Windham in 2008 and he would fight his last match in 2010 as a member of American Combat Wrestling.
After all those years, including being inducted into the Hall of Fame, Windham apparently does not even have enough money to pay his medical bills.
After suffering a massive heart attack, a GoFundMe page has been established to help pay the bills.

The wrestling community should be ashamed of itself for this, as it truly is art coming to life.
The story is very reminiscent of the character that Mickey Rourke played “The Wrestler.”
