Texas Democrat Was Tied to Cartel Money

In 2006, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) received a $1,000 donation from the wife of Antonio Peña Arguelles.

At the time, he was known to be money launderer for the Los Zetas cartel.

When the donation first took place, it got very little juice and disappeared rather quickly.

I doubt that will be the case this time around.

The Donation

After the link to the cartel was established, Cuellar said he would remove the money and donate it to charity.

The story died.

Today, with corruption allegation surrounding Cuellar, this story takes on a bit more steam.

After the report was published in the National Review, Cuellar’s campaign responded.

It stated that “resurfacing this 10-year-old story is a blatant smear attempt” and insisted that Cuellar “had no knowledge” of the Peña Arguelles family’s background.

If that truly is the case, then he really should not have a problem with people digging into his past.

Cuellar barely made it out of the primary, so if something comes of this, it is hard to imagine him holding that seat.
