CNN Pushes Back Against the Administration

But isn’t this the administration the media wanted? People watched prices at the pump start rising as soon as Biden took office, well before Russia invaded Ukraine. CNN’s Jake Tapper interjected when White House economic adviser Brian Deese tried to blame rising prices on Putin again. White House officials are going to continue to say it’s Putin’s fault and that Biden is doing everything he can.

The administration just needs to repeat the lie

Tapper spoke with Deese on Monday, “Today, on average, gas is costing $4.60 a gallon, that’s up more than $0.10 a gallon from last week, almost $0.50 from last month. We’re one week away from Memorial Day, should Americans be buckling up for these high prices all summer?”

Deese repeated that Biden is doing all he can and that it’s Putin’s fault we’re still here. “We’re doing everything we can to bring those prices down. As you know, this all emanates from Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine —”

Tapper wasn’t playing with the administration

He cut off Deese, “Not all of it. Not all of it. Some of it, yes.” But Deese continued what is supposed to be repeated, “Just to be really clear, since troops started massing on the Ukrainian border and there was a concern that Russian supplies would come off, we have seen prices at the pump go up to $1.50. That is the price hike that is associated with the impact of taking Russian supply off the market. So, we’re doing everything we can to bring more supply onto the market.”

It needs to be called the Putin Price Hike. Peter Doocy pushed back on Jen Psaki too. Higher fuel prices affect everybody, regardless your politics.

The administration is a brick wall

You’ll be told what they want you to hear. Doocy asked, “It sounds like you are blaming Putin for the increase in gas prices recently, but weren’t gas prices going up anyway because of post-pandemic supply chain issues?”

Psaki reiterated it was Putin’s fault and if the prices had gone up before the war it was in anticipation of Russia invading the Ukraine. Doocy put it in her face again, only this time he suggested a solution, “Gas prices are approaching an all-time high per gallon. How high would they have to get before President Biden would say, ‘I’m going set aside my ambitious climate goals adjust increase domestic oil production, get the producers to drill more here, and we can address the fossil fuel future later?’” Psaki just reaffirmed the administration was on track for record production.
