A California elementary school teacher literally told conservative students at the local high school to “jump off a bridge” but she claims that she did not “literally” mean that they should jump off a bridge. The teacher posted the remark on social media after seeing students from the school’s conservative club with a flag which carried a certain expletive directed towards Joe Biden (you can guess what that was) in the school parking lot on Veterans Day.

Teacher posts violent rhetoric on social media

Kristin Usilton, of the Paso Robles School District, told her potential past or future students that they “can go jump off a bridge” in a video posted on Instagram.

She attempted to change her remarks after she realized that she would not get away with telling students in the district to commit suicide but the damage had been done.

The remark did not sound sarcastic when Usilton initially recorded herself saying it but even if it was this is a completely inappropriate thing for a teacher to be posting on social media.

The fact that this individual teaches young children is very concerning. How does Usilton behave towards students in her own classrooms if this is what she is willing to broadcast to the world?

Her remarks also implied some degree of racial animosity towards white students in the school district, suggesting that she may be actively discriminating against her own students.

How many more hateful public school teachers like this might there be in the United States who are not caught because they are not stupid enough to post this sort of thing on social media?

School district taking action

The school district has launched two simultaneous investigations. One is directed towards Usilton and the other is focused on the conservative students who allegedly waved the banner in question.

This is undoubtedly the correct response from the district so far. The superintendent has already stressed that posting negative remarks about students on social media is entirely inappropriate for a teacher.

He also pointed out that a school campus, particularly on Veteran’s Day, should be treated with a basic degree of professionalism and decorum by both students and teachers.

The conservative students were far less offensive than Usilton was but the district should certainly inform them that a school campus on Veteran’s Day is not the time or place to be broadcasting obscenities, even if they are directed at a president who deserves them.

Conservative students should be setting an example for their peers by behaving with dignity and respect for the reasonable rules and policies set in place by the school district.

That said, their behavior is nothing compared to the actions of a teacher who tells students to kill themselves for their political beliefs. Kristen Usilton has no business teaching any students in any school district.
