Last week, the House passed legislation that would provide the aid that the White House wanted for Israel.
The Biden administration, however, has a problem with the $14.3 billion package.
Speaker Johnson (R-LA) passed this as a stand-alone spending bill, but the White House wanted this to be a combined package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.
The legislation also pulled money from the Inflation Reduction Act that was tagged for the IRS.
Veto It
The legislation passed made sense.
Simply put, the United States cannot continue to write billion-dollar checks when we may be drug into this war at some point.
The IRA had roughly $80 billion set aside for the IRS over the next decade.
In any normal budget, when you need more money for one thing, costs have to be cut in other areas, but that is not how Joe and Democrats operate.
They just say fire up the printing presses at the Treasury and print more money.
Common Sense Spending
One of the reasons that Rep. Johnson (R-LA) was elected was because he agreed to dial down excessive spending.
To that point, Johnson stated, “I did not attach that for political purposes, OK.
“I attached it because, again, we’re trying to get back to the principle of fiscal responsibility here.
“And that was the easiest and largest pile of money that’s sitting there for us to be able to pay for this immediate obligation.”
He added, “Ukraine will come in short order, it will come next.
“And you’ve heard me say that we want to pair border security with Ukraine … If we’re going to take care of a border in Ukraine, we need to take care of America’s border as well.”
The White House has since stated that it will veto the legislation if it makes it through the Senate.
It just goes to show the American people who is worried about their wallets and who is worried about scoring political points.
