The rape trial of E. Jean Carroll is officially underway.
As typically happens in a rape case, the alleged victim is under attack by the defendant’s attorneys.
The problem in this case is that the defendant is Donald Trump and he is already struggling with women voters.
Political Attack?
There are a lot of reasons to doubt the allegations being made by E. Jean Carroll.
At the top of that list is the fact that her case is being bankrolled by Democrat megadonor Reid Hoffman.
That will mean little to the media, however.
Other than that, there are some “issues” that were brought up by Trump’s attorneys during the hearing.
For instance, although she claims she was raped by Trump, Carroll never screamed during the attack.
When she was asked about this, she snapped back at the attorney, “You can’t beat up on me for not screaming.
“One of the reasons women don’t come forward is because they are always asked why they didn’t scream.
“I’m not a screamer.
“I was too much in a panic to scream. I was fighting.”
Her “version” of the rape was also called into question for closely resembling an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” called “Theatre and Tricks.”
In that episode, a character talks about a role-playing rape fantasy at the same store where Carroll alleges the Trump rape took place.
The character says, “Role-play took place in the dressing room of Bergdorf’s. While she was trying on lingerie I would burst in.”
Carroll testified that she had never seen the episode, with Trump’s attorney calling it “An amazing coincidence.”
Carroll also made a sexual assault allegation against former CBS head Les Moonves.
When she was asked why she never sued him, she responded, “He simply denied it.
“He didn’t call me any names.
“He didn’t say I was an operative of the democratic party.
“He didn’t say I was running a scam.
“He didn’t grind my face into the mud like Donald Trump did.”
Trump has denied all allegations made against him.
Win or lose, this case is a problem for Trump simply because he is hurting specifically in the female demographic, but it will be an absolute disaster for him if he loses.
Democrats will surely use any footage they can to hurt Trump in a general election as well as bringing in Carroll to tell her story again and again to keep it fresh in voters’ minds.
