Details are starting to emerge about the mass shooting in Louisville, Kentucky, which everyone woke up to on Monday morning. It seems that 23-year-old bank employee Connor Sturgeon was about to be fired, so he fired first, with an AR-15. Four victims are dead plus Sturgeon. Nine others are wounded, some fighting for their lives. The whole thing went out live as it happened on Instagram, too.
Louisville shooting details
CNN is reporting the most up to the minute details about the mass shooting at Old National Bank in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. It happened before the branch was open to the public on Monday, April 10. Twitter is making a big deal that his bio lists “pronouns” but at least they are He/Him.
They identify the killer as Connor Sturgeon, age 23. He was a current employee of the bank, though he knew that was about to change. The network outlet caught up with the interim Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel, who filled them in.
Contrary to some early reports, Sturgeon did not take his own life, police took it after an exchange of gunfire. The four deceased victims have been identified as Joshua Barrick, Juliana Farmer, Tommy Elliott and James Tutt. All were “between the ages of 40 and 64.”

The bank is going to have a hard time replacing what appear to be the senior management staff. “The bank’s executive team is headed in Louisville.” One of the victims was “a close friend of Governor Andy Beshear, who he credited with helping him both professionally and in his personal life.”
Three of the nine shooting victims remain hospitalized in critical condition. Three others were treated and released. The remaining victims remain under care with wounds not considered life threatening.
One of those on the critical list is a rookie officer of the Louisville Metro Police. The 26-year-old graduated only 10 days ago. He’s fighting for his life after being shot in the head.

About to be fired
As related by the Louisville PD, the “mass shooting began at the Old National Bank on East Main Street just after 8:30 a.m.” That’s about half an hour before the bank opens for business. Officers arrived within three minutes of the first report “and found the shooter was still firing.”
The firm’s CEO Jim Ryan issued a statement noting “The safety of Old National Bank employees and everyone we serve in our banking center locations is paramount.”
As soon as they arrived on scene, officers got into a furious shootout with the suspect, Louisville Metro Police Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey, explains. That’s when and how they killed him. The weapon used is described as “an AR-15-style rifle.”
"I had a very close friend that didn't make it today."

From what they’ve pieced together, “the gunman was notified that he was going to be terminated from Old National Bank.” There’s terminated, then there’s “terminated.” His LinkedIn notes he “went to business school at the University of Alabama and worked at Old National Bank beginning in 2018 as an intern and later became a full-time employee.”
Sturgeon “wrote a note to his parents and a friend indicating that he was going to open fire in the bank.” CNN can’t tell if “that note was on paper or emailed, or whether it was seen before the incident or after.” Also, the shooting was livestreamed on Instagram.
The platform pulled it but it was still up for a while “immediately after the shooting.” Police have a copy. They had much of downtown Louisville blocked off in the aftermath and “shattered glass was strewn at the entrance.“
