A Nashville area library director has been fired for not stepping up when staff disrupted a story hour sponsored by Kirk Cameron. The county library board voted 4-3 to terminate Hendersonville Public Library director Allan Morales from his position. The staff was walking around that story hour yelling, slamming books, playing loud music, and deliberately making disruptive noises.
The director didn’t make any noise
But he was in charge of those who did. The county commissioner, Tim Jones, a Republican, defended Morales but he was still let go.
The event was in response to the many drag queen events held in libraries across the nation. Those who supported the staff said they were harassed and even received death threats after the event was finished.
The director had to take the fall
“Duck Dynasty” star Missy Robertson though the staff acted very unprofessionally. She spoke on a March 9 podcast with her father-in-law Phil Robertson.
The library actually tried to cancel the event, saying space was limited. Public pressure insisted that it be held anyway.
The director didn’t know who Kirk Cameron was
On the podcast Missy “described how staff members made loud noises and played music from behind the front desk after they had asked for about a minute of quiet to record their videos.” Apparently the staff were under a lot of stress. Missy retorted, “Stre- … what stress? … We’re just standing there with a camera doing a marketing video. That’s when I turned my phone on. I started recording. I was like, ‘This is blatant and ridiculous.’”
Morales said he didn’t know who Cameron was,
“When they scheduled to have this function at the library, there was so much outpouring, great response from the community, that the guy that was running the library could not believe. He was like, ‘Whoever y’all are, y’all must be great, because this is the most we’ve ever had from a public event. Like, this is going to be awesome, whoever this Kurt Cameron guy is.’”
