A former Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals pitcher is no longer with us.

Mark Littell has passed away.

He was 69 years old.

Gone But Not Forgotten

Littell’s career got off to a rough start, but he quickly got the ship righted and would end up spending nine years in the show.

After his 1973 debut with the Royals, Littell went back down to the minors for the 1974 season to get himself straightened out.

He came back up the majors in 1975.

From 1976 through 1979, he was one of the best in the business coming out of the bullpen.

During that stretch, he had three seasons with at least 8 wins and only four losses.

He may be remembered best for serving up a home run to Chris Chambliss to lose the ALCS to the Yankees.

But everyone seemed to forget that one of the main reasons the Royals were even in that spot was because of Littell’s 8-4 record, 2.08 ERA, and 16 saves.

He had one more contribution to the MLB, which was designing an athletic cup, and this video should give you a little better idea of his personality…

Rest in peace, Mark… when you were at your best, you were one of the best.
