It’s all well and good to talk about it but you don’t want to stick your foot in your mouth. Both Biden and Harris wasted no time pounding the podium, screaming for a ban on guns again before finding out the shooter wasn’t of legal age to buy a firearm to begin with. Biden hammered both Republicans and gun manufacturers after the Apalachee High school shooting in Georgia Wednesday.
Banning guns wouldn’t have prevented this
At least four people were killed and 30 injured when a 14-year-old male opened fire. Biden released a statement that he was
“mourning the deaths of those whose lives were cut short due to more senseless gun violence. What should have been a joyous back-to-school season in Winder, Georgia, has now turned into another horrific reminder of how gun violence continues to tear our communities apart. Students across the country are learning how to duck and cover instead of how to read and write. We cannot continue to accept this as normal.”
Predictably, he slammed Republicans for not doing anything about gun legislation,
“Republicans in Congress must finally say ‘enough is enough’ and work with Democrats to pass common-sense gun safety legislation. We must ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines once again, require safe storage of firearms, enact universal background checks, and end immunity for gun manufacturers.”
Kamala Harris spoke about banning guns as well, “We’re still gathering information about what happened…We have to end this epidemic of gun violence in our country once and for all.” She then echoed Biden by pushing for an “‘assault weapons’ ban and universal background checks and red flag laws. It is a false choice to say you’re either for the Second Amendment or you want to take everyone’s guns away. I’m in favor of the Second Amendment, and I know we need reasonable gun safety laws in our country.”
But Georgia teenagers can’t buy guns
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced at a press conference that the shooter was only 14 years old. The legal age to purchase firearms in the state is 21.
He was taken into custody minutes after calls came in about the shooting. Biden and Harris weren’t the only ones to speak before knowing all the facts. Sen. Raphael Warnock also looked like a fool pushing for a ban.
The President and Vice President pushed for the point-of-sale control before realizing the shooter wouldn’t have been impacted by that at all. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms stated, “Under the Gun Control Act (GCA), shotguns and rifles, and ammunition for shotguns or rifles may be sold only to individuals 18 years of age or older. All firearms other than shotguns and rifles, and all ammunition other than ammunition for shotguns or rifles may be sold only to individuals 21 years of age or older.”
The teenager had access to guns somehow
The Washington Post said facts weren’t known yet, “Authorities have not released details about the weapon used in the shootings, but Biden called on Congress to ban assault weapons.” Biden immediately put his statement on Whitehouse.gov.
“After decades of inaction, Republicans in Congress must finally say ‘enough is enough’ and work with Democrats to pass common-sense gun safety legislation. We must ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines once again, require safe storage of firearms, enact universal background checks, and end immunity for gun manufacturers. These measures will not bring those who were tragically killed today back, but it will help prevent more tragic gun violence from ripping more families apart.”
Both were pushing gun control before knowing how the firearms were acquired to begin with. In addition, Biden has been threatening gun manufacturers with legislation so they can be sued. He’s been at this for at least four years when he said on Feb. 24, 2020 that “I’m going to take you down”.
