North Korea launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) for the first time since 2017, the nation’s most significant weapons test in recent years.
The nation’s testing of the ICBM is an acceleration of its weapons program and also is raising alarm with the United States and also its global allies. The test was conducted near Pyongyang’s Sunan location, which was the location of two recent rocket tests by North Korea.
The weapon is believed to be the new Hwasongpho-17 ICBM with an estimated range of 8,100 mi.
The State News Agency of North Korea KCNA wrote, “The intercontinental ballistic missile “Hwasongpho-17″ launched at the Pyongyang International Airport, flew 1,090 kilometres for 4,052 seconds while going up to the highest altitude 6,248.5 kilometres before correctly hitting the target in the set waters over the East Sea of Korea. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida claimed the rocket seems a brand-new kind of ICBM since of its extended array as well as condemned the test.
“These series of actions taken by North Korea threaten the peace and security of our country, the region, and the international community, and they are absolutely unacceptable,” Kishida said.
South Korea’s army reacted instantly by test-firing multiple ground and also air missiles into the sea in between Japan as well as the Korean Peninsula.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in vehemently chastised the North for the missile’s launch, which he said presented “a serious danger to the international community as well as the Korean Peninsula.”
