Even kids understand. High school students that have studied history opened their textbooks again to tell Kamala Harris that price controls have been tried before. It’s never worked. Harris will be announcing her potential agenda Friday. She’s insisting grocery stores are being greedy so she’ll save the day by putting a cap on those prices. The students understand prices are adjusting due to economic realities.
Kamala can talk
She can talk all she wants but if she implements this it will lead to shortages. The shelves will be empty.
Prices may rise naturally due to a disaster because of limited supply. Reasonable prices will return once the disaster is over and supply can return.
Those who need or want that product the most will pay the highest prices. When prices are held artificially low, grocers and individuals will buy in bulk. Even those who might not need a product will buy more.
Kamala and basic economics
When business “price gouges” they’re trying to recuperate the very high cost of bringing in and maintaining a product. Price controls don’t work because businesses don’t just decide to be greedy.
Those prices are going up because ridiculous government spending and inflation cranks up the cost of everything. So people with more common sense have been speaking up.
John Stossel is a libertarian journalist. “Are you smarter than a politician? The answer is ‘yes’ if you are among the millions of students who, thanks to the charity run by this high school teacher, get to watch my videos in class.”
Kamala needs to listen to sense
His charity, Stossel in the Classroom, has educational videos showing different approaches to thought, economics and government. Several high school kids spoke up about his ideas.
One said, “In modern days, countries like Venezuela suffer from the fact that their governments continue to place price controls on all items.” A second said, “If you look at the economics, the most people are helped if you keep the government out of it.”
It’s not just conservatives talking her opposite. Democrats are voicing opposition too. One Washington Post article was blunt. “When your opponent calls you a ‘communist,’ maybe don’t propose price controls. It’s hard to exaggerate how bad Kamala Harris’s price-gouging proposal is.”
