British Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer has given police full support to deal with who he calls “extremists”. Mass migration protesters and rioting broke out over the country over children and young people being stabbed at a party in Southport. The recently elected leftist prime minister had to deal with unrest after being in office less than a month and these are typically Labour party stronghold areas.
Unhappy protesters
The person who stabbed people was a 17 year old Rwandan second generation immigrant. The far left Hope Not Hate organization reported to the Guardian that 35 locations were going to see protests on Saturday.
There were some clashes with police as well as businesses in Belfast, Hull, Liverpool, and Manchester. Over 90 arrests were made across the country on Sunday.
A Downing Street spokesman spoke,
“The prime minister set out that the police have our full support to take action against extremists on our streets who are attacking police officers, disrupting local businesses and attempting to sow hate by intimidating communities. The prime minister ended by saying the right to freedom of expression and the violent disorder we have seen are two very different things. He said there is no excuse for violence of any kind and reiterated that the government backs the police to take all necessary action to keep our streets safe.”
Protesters characterized as the other extreme
The prime minister’s response to this is in sharp contrast to the response to the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020. He took a knee in solidarity to that movement, saying they were “people rightly demanding justice”.
The government was criticized for refusing to talk about footage on social media showing violent groups of Muslim or leftist counter protesters. The Reform Party of Nigel Farage criticized Starmer for not dealing with the root of the problem, mass migration.
Farage’s deputy MP Richard Tice said, “Many millions of concerned British citizens are furious at lawless Britain. Children being slaughtered. Machete mobs abound. Soldiers being stabbed. Police violently attacked in airport. Instead of empathy, Keir Starmer labelled folk as “far-right”. Out of touch, clueless.”
Far left against protesters
The far left will want more government. Tory leadership candidate and former Home Secretary Priti Patel wanted Starmer to call an emergency Parliament session.
The most extreme view came from Baron Walney, Labour MP and current government advisor on political violence. Lord Waleny spoke to the Times Radio.
“I think the government and new ministers will understand the British public will back them in whatever measures they feel is necessary to get this situation under control. Back in Covid, they were prepared to back measures that were needed in that situation and I think they would take a similar approach to keeping rioters off the streets now given the scale of damage that has been done to communities.”
