As the war between Israel and Hamas continues to rage on, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have been working tirelessly to combat the terrorist group’s efforts to establish underground tunnels in the Gaza Strip.
The elite Yahalom combat engineering unit has been at the forefront of this fight, destroying these passages before they can be used for nefarious purposes.

The 7107th Battalion of the Combat Engineering Corps, along with infantry forces of the Nahal and Negev brigades, have been working together to uncover tunnel entrances throughout northern Gaza. Once these tunnels are discovered, Yahalom troops immediately take action by placing explosives within them and then detonating them from a safe distance.
Videos released by the IDF show troops planting explosives in one tunnel before neutralizing another through detonation. This methodical approach is essential to ensuring that each passage is completely destroyed while also keeping our soldiers safe during operations.

The primary reason for demolishing these tunnels is to prevent infiltration into Israeli territory by Hamas militants or other terrorists who could use these passages as a way into Israel undetected. These underground networks are not only difficult to discover but they also provide an effective means of avoiding detection once inside enemy lines; this makes them an attractive option for those seeking to do harm in Israel’s borders.
By locating and destroying each tunnel before any infiltration can occur, Yahalom troops are helping ensure that no one can pass through without being seen on surveillance systems or stopped at checkpoints throughout northern Gaza.

In addition to stopping potential infiltrators from entering via underground tunnels, Yahalom’s efforts are also helping raise awareness among Israelis about how dangerous these networks can be if left unchecked.
