They don’t care about anybody but themselves. Jesus Ayala was 17 when he drove the stolen car that murdered a former California police chief that was just out riding his bike. Ayala showed no remorse in court. The teen boasted as he was being arrested, mocking the officers. There are enough soft-on-crime prosecutors so it makes sense he thought he’d get out quickly. But he turned 18 in prison.

The teen taunted

And the police camera caught it. “You think this juvenile [expletive] is gonna do some [expletive]? I’ll be out in 30 days, I’ll bet you. It’s just ah, [expletive] ah, hit-and-run — slap on the wrist.”

The video of the retired police officer Andreas Probst went viral. It showed the stolen Hyundai Elantra swerving to hit the elderly man. The voices on the video belong to Ayala and his 16 year old passenger Jzamir Keys. The words “bump him” and laughing could be heard.

The teen will not be shown the door

The two were in the middle of a crime spree. This was fun for them. Whatever the punishment is, it won’t be enough.

They stole three cars, did three hit-and-runs. The stolen cars were purposefully destroyed. There was blood on the windshield where Probst collided with the car.

The teen will be nailed

Probst’s daughter found him unresponsive on the side of the road. His iPhone had alerted her that he’d fallen. The video helped confirm the act of running him down as intentional.

Ayala can boast all he wants. Problem for him is he’ll turn 18 in prison and will be charged as an adult. It turns out if a teen is charged with murder in Nevada it’s automatically upgraded to the adult charge. When they appeared in court Thursday, both were charged as adults. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said they needed to be kept in custody. Wolfson said,

“The determination of whether somebody should remain in custody is based upon whether they’re a flight risk or a danger to the community. I believe they’re potentially both. They have certainly proved that they are dangerous.”
