After what seems like an eternity, President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, was recently indicted on federal gun charges and if convicted, he will soon be facing up to 25 years in prison and up to $750,000 in fines. This news came after his original plea deal fell through.
Adding to this was also the recent discovery that text messages show Hunter Biden calling his stepmother and current First Lady Jill Biden a “vindictive moron” as well as other insulting language even referring to her as a “selfish silly entitled c***.”
What does this mean for the future of Hunter Biden? And how will it affect his father’s upcoming 2024 reelection campaign?
According to CNN, when buying a revolver at a Delaware gun shop in October 2018 Hunter lied on a federal form when he swore that he was not using or addicted to any illegal drugs – even though he was struggling with crack cocaine addiction at the time of purchasing.
The indictment states that by providing this false statement he violated federal law and is now facing three criminal charges: making false statements on a federal firearms form, possessing a firearm as prohibited person and receiving/possessing firearms while in possession of controlled substances such as crack cocaine.
Abbe Lowell, who represents Hunter Biden has, however, claimed these charges are barred by an agreement made between prosecutors earlier and are actually politically motivated due to pressure from Republicans which led them to find something against him in order to accomplish their goals.
It remains unclear what impact this may have on the upcoming reelection campaign considering there is still some time til then but one thing is certain- news like this always puts additional strain on campaigns particularly presidential ones.
It can be argued that family scandals such as these can hurt public opinion about candidates so much so that it can determine who wins or loses an election depending how much attention it gets from media outlets. Even more so with the Biden crime family.
