A local sheriff’s office responded to a call involving a woman and her husband who was shooting his rifle inside their mobile home.
The man had promised to commit “suicide by cop” if she called the police and threatened to kill responding officers.
Fortunately, four deputies were able to safely neutralize the suspect without any casualties.
Witnesses reported nearly being hit by rounds as he fired outside.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered 56-year-old Michael Alan Loman had gone towards the back bedroom “to reload” with intention of killing them all upon their arrival.
Officers quickly got the woman out of harm’s way before Loman burst through the front door brandishing a rifle which he refused to drop after multiple warnings from law enforcement.
It was later confirmed that he had an extensive criminal history including one felony for possession of cocaine and three misdemeanors for domestic violence battery among other charges.
After numerous warnings, four deputies shot him dead on the spot.
In light of this tragic incident, Sheriff Grady Judd held an immediate press conference where he defended his officers’ actions while shutting down anyone who would criticize how they handled this potentially deadly situation: “We shot him—a lot.”
He explained that his officers were trained to neutralize any deadly threat posed towards innocent civilians or themselves and there wasn’t time for negotiation due to the dire nature of this crime.
Loman had threatened innocent people and refused orders despite being armed with a weapon at all times while refusing compliance with law enforcement orders.
Thankfully no one involved with this incident sustained injuries nor death due to these quick thinking officers’ decision making skills in such dangerous circumstances.
Sheriff Judd also commended them for handling it in what seemed like best manner possible under extreme pressure situations such as these ones.
