The Department of Justice (DOJ) and its special counsel, Jack Smith, have become increasingly partisan in their pursuit of justice.
In the past few years, there have been multiple cases where Smith has overzealously attempted to take down a Republican.
The most notable is the case against former Virginia Republican Governor Robert McDonnell and his wife Maureen for “participating in a scheme to violate federal public corruption laws” as stated in a DOJ news release.
It became so serious that it made it all the way up to the Supreme Court only for them to unanimously overturn the convictions due to lack of evidence.
Even left-leaning Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg agreed with the decision which shows how far removed from reality this whole situation was.
Chief Justice John Roberts said that setting up meetings or calling another official doesn’t qualify as an ‘official act’ and further went on to describe some of what was being charged as tawdry tales of Ferraris, Rolexes and ball gowns.
A statement from McDonnell himself showed how he felt about it saying that he didn’t even attend any meetings but still found himself facing criminal charges because someone gave him gifts which were legal and reported according to law.
McDonnell asserted during an appearance on Life Liberty & Levin that Smith is “overzealous” and seems to prioritize winning over getting it right.
Instead of doing an honest look at the law first he’s quick to charge people with crimes they haven’t committed or misinterpreting facts into something they aren’t.
Constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley believes there is less than meets the eye when looking at Trump’s recent indictment too because much of what is being charged is actually protected speech under First Amendment rights.
He also compared this situation with McDonnell’s by saying that both cases are similar in terms of prosecutors taking things too far without any grounds whatsoever for their accusations which eventually get overturned by higher courts anyways leaving people embarrassed for nothing more than political gain.
It appears that Democrats will stop at nothing when it comes to trying outdo each other in order to make President Donald Trump look bad no matter how many times they get called out on it or how embarrassing their actions may be later on down the road.
