On Thursday, a tragic incident unfolded at a federal shooting range in Phoenix resulting in the accidental death of an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) special agent.

The agent was shot by another IRS agent and no employees from the Federal Bureau of Prisons were injured during the occurrence according to a spokesperson.

Charlotte M. Dennis, representing the IRS Criminal Investigation (CI) division in the Phoenix Field Office, confirmed that an “incident” had taken place.

Sadly, the agent was transported to HonorHealth Deer Valley Medical Center where they eventually lost their life.

The investigation into this unfortunate incident is being conducted by special agents from FBI’s Phoenix field office who have already released a statement confirming their involvement in looking into what led up to this tragedy.

They have however, not disclosed any further details about it as yet.

Once completed, findings will be handed over to U.S. Attorney’s Office (District of Arizona) for review.

According to Charlotte M Dennis’ statement expressing her grief and condolences for those affected, it is clear that the primary concern at this time lies with them and their family members.

The unexpected loss has left everyone connected or associated with law enforcement community shocked and saddened beyond words.
