Governor Ron DeSantis is now officially in the race, and he is hitting the ground running.
This weekend, DeSantis met with a group of people that are not very happy with Donald Trump.
This is clearly how DeSantis wants to make his mark against Trump.
The Untouchables
I think we can all agree that the families of the those that were lost on 9/11 are about as untouchable as it gets in this country.
Anyone that criticizes them would significant pushback.
Many of them also happen to have a grudge against Trump.
Trump has been at the forefront of the new LIV golf tour, which is owned by the Saudis.
Trump’s clubs have hosted some of these events, and that is not sitting well the family members who want the Saudis held accountable for their role in the 9/11 attacks.
The family members have been very critical of Trump for taking profits over their cause.
For instance, Terry Strada, national chair of 9/11 Families United, whose husband died in the 9/11 attacks, wrote to Trump, “Your decision to maintain an ongoing business partnership with the Saudi government has been deeply hurtful to the 9/11 community.”
DeSantis met with this group over the holiday weekend.
Brett Eagleson, who lost his father during 9/11, stated, “It was just so remarkable and gracious that the governor of Florida invited us to his home.
“He gave us over an hour of his time and listened to every one of our stories.”
He continued, “I just want to juxtapose that against what a former president is doing on this very weekend at a golf course and one of his own golf courses, lining the pockets from a country who stands accused in a trial as we speak… of aiding and abetting and sponsoring the 9/11 terror attacks.”
DeSantis told the families, “We’ve got a lot of great people here today, we are going to meet with some of the families from 9/11.
“I’ll tell you that is one of the reasons I joined the military after that.”
DeSantis knows that Trump cannot say a word about this because he will come off looking like a heel.
