This may surprise you, but AOC is swimming upstream again.
While much of Congress seems on board with banning TikTok, possibly outlawing in it in this country, she is not among them.
AOC is making a case that is not the way to deal with this issue.
Regulate It Better
Now, this is going to sound crazy, but I actually agree with part of her argument.
Before you throw your phone up against the wall, hear me out.
The point I agree with is social media companies getting our data and selling it off as well as collecting data without our consent.
That is where AOC and I part…
Banning TikTok isn’t the solution to data privacy concerns. Instead, Congress needs to focus on regulating social media companies’ unchecked habit of collecting user data without their consent. pic.twitter.com/DASSeTeMCT

The bigger problem here is that the Chinese government can get its hands on US TikTok user information in a heartbeat if it decides it wants it.
Let’s also not forget, the Chinese do not allow US applications to be used in its country, so banning this is not exactly unprecedented.
The easy solution is to force ownership to divest the part of the company that hosts American users and allow a US company to take that over, but I doubt that will happen.
TikTok has become a viable source of income for many Americans, however, so there is also that aspect of it that would have to be dealt with if the application is outright banned.
It is rather amazing how much of a hot potato this has come and that it has taken this long to even get on the table.
Oh, yeah, that’s right… Trump wanted this taken care of when he was in office but everyone laughed at him and called him a conspiracy theorist.
