One of the most influential artists of the 1960s and 1970s has passed away.

David Crosby is dead.

He was 81 years old.

Sad Day for the Music World

In his later years, David Crosby was probably more known for his liberal rants than his music, but that should not hurt his musical legacy.

As a founding member of The Byrds, he was influential in shaping the sound of rock as we know it today.

Crosby has never been easy to get along with, which is why his time with The Byrds was so short.

After only a few hours, he left and formed Crosby, Stills, & Nash.

Soon after the group formed, Neil Young was added.

Stephen Stills, after hearing of his old bandmate’s passing, stated, “I read a quote in this morning’s paper attributed to compose Gustav Mahler that stopped me for a moment: ‘Death has, on placid cat’s paws, entered the room.’ I shoulda known something was up.

“David and I butted heads a lot over time, but they were mostly glancing blows, yet still left us numb skulls … I was happy to be at peace with him. He was without question a giant of a musician, and his harmonic sensibilities were nothing short of genius.

“The glue that held us together as our vocals soared, like Icarus, towards the sun.

“I am deeply saddened at his passing and shall miss him beyond measure.”

As are many music lovers, of that I am certain.
